George R. Calhoun V primarily focuses his practice on the representation of insurers in mass tort bankruptcy matters, for which he has been ranked by Chambers USA. George has represented major insurers in asbestos, talc, abuse, and environmental bankruptcies for over 25 years.

George is a first-chair litigator who knows how to win in a courtroom, in arbitration, or at the settlement table. George has had prominent roles in asbestos, abuse, and opioid bankruptcies throughout the country, including Babcock & Wilcox, Congoleum, Quigley (Pfizer), Duro Dyne, USA Gymnastics, Diocese of Winona-Rochester, Purdue Pharma, and Rite Aid. Most recently, he led an insurer group’s coordinated efforts during the joint plan confirmation hearing of Imerys Talc America and Cyprus Mines and filled the same role during the bankruptcy of AIO US (Avon). George also provides strategic advice to insurance clients facing mass tort issues and the impacts of bankruptcy on insurance issues. He has also represented insurers in obtaining stay relief, with respect to bond matters, and D&O insurance bankruptcy matters.

George also has an extensive background in dispute resolution, having appeared before numerous state and federal courts on behalf of clients, including insurers, large multi-national corporations, and individuals. By putting his clients’ goals and objectives first, he is adept at devising case strategies that achieve his clients’ definition of success.

Outside of the mass tort context, George has represented companies and individuals in a variety of complex litigation matters, including prosecuting and defending civil RICO claims and litigating complex business disputes. In addition, George represents a major U.S. company in collecting a multi-billion judgment, having assisted in the recovery of over $1.2 billion through an international effort spanning over a dozen countries.
